Cloud.gov PaaS, Operated by 18F, Achieves Authorization From FedRAMP Accelerated Process

WESTMINSTER, CO – February 6, 2017 – Veris Group, LLC (now Coalfire) has announced today that it has completed the independent assessment of the Cloud.gov Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) built and maintained by 18F, a part of the General Services Administration (GSA) Technology Transformation Service, under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP). The platform was assessed at the FIPS 199 Moderate security categorization level.

FedRAMP is a U.S. government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services.

Acting as the FedRAMP third party assessment organization (3PAO) for 18F, Veris Group, LLC dba Coalfire Federal validated that the Cloud.gov platform met the FedRAMP security requirements for moderate impact level systems. The Cloud.gov PaaS went through the FedRAMP Accelerated program, FedRAMP’s updated program to assess capabilities and readiness to move cloud services through the approval process in a quicker timeframe. This authorization is the second cloud service to make it through the Accelerated program. More information on 18F’s FedRAMP Authorization can be found on the 18F blog and the GSA blog; both discuss the timeframe and effort of the 18F authorization process.

“Working with 18F to get the Cloud.gov assessed and authorized under FedRAMP is an important achievement. Cloud.gov enables federal digital teams to focus on developing cloud services for government within an environment that meets the FedRAMP security standards,” said Michael Carter, VP, GRC/Cyber Readiness & Engineering at Veris Group.

Cloud service providers preparing for the FedRAMP process with another 3PAO or considering FedRAMP should contact Coalfire to provide an independent review of their readiness or progress towards FedRAMP.
