Lockheed Martin Receives Highest Level FedRAMP® Authorization to Provide Government Cloud Services
Rockville, Md.,June 6, 2013 – Lockheed Martin has received the highest level Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) authorization from the FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board to become an approved provider of secure community cloud services to federal, state and local agencies. The company is one of the first large federal contractors to receive this level of authorization.
FedRAMP is a standardized approach to cloud security assessments, authorization, and monitoring that will save the government money, time, and staff by eliminating redundant agency security assessments. Through FedRAMP’s security authorizations, federal agencies can also drastically reduce the time it takes to adopt new IT capabilities while maintaining security compliance.
Lockheed Martin received the FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board’s provisional authorization—the most rigorous approval—which entails a thorough review by chief information officers of the General Services Administration, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense. Whereas other authorization levels are reviewed for use by a specific federal agency, the provisional authorization and continuous monitoring by the board is done with a government-wide viewpoint to ensure the highest standards are maintained.
“As a leader in cybersecurity and government cloud computing, Lockheed Martin is deeply involved in shaping cloud security standards across the industry,” said Stephanie C. Hill, vice president of Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions-Civil business. “Our secure community cloud offering was built FedRAMP ready and has been serving government agencies and other regulated industry customers since 2012.”
To receive this authorization, Lockheed Martin documented and fully implemented the FedRAMP security controls on its cloud service offerings. In addition, Coalfire Federal, a division of Coalfire Systems Inc., audited these security controls as an independent FedRAMP-accredited third party assessment organization.
A leader in cybersecurity, Lockheed Martin brings more than 40 years of security certification and accreditation experience across various federal agency programs at all National Institute of Standards and Technology security categories and impact levels. Through Lockheed Martin’s proven Solutions as a Service (SolaS®) cloud strategy, the corporation has offered a flexible, mission-focused approach to secure cloud computing since 2009. The SolaS Secure Community Cloud combines best-in-industry partnerships with companies such as VMware, Inc. and EMC Corporation, as well as unprecedented domain expertise and innovative technology to deliver private, community and hybrid offerings for a variety of customers.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 118,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services. The Corporation’s net sales for 2012 were $47.2 billion.
