Sam Pfanstiel Appointed Director, Solution Architecture for Payments

Payments Industry Veteran Adds Compliance Expertise

Westminster, Colo. – July 14, 2016 – Coalfire, a leader in cybersecurity risk management and compliance services, today announced Sam Pfanstiel has joined the company as the Director of Solution Architecture for Payments. Pfanstiel’s experience spans solution engineering and consulting as well as research and development positions.

“Sam Pfanstiel has an extensive background in payments solutions with a wide breadth of understanding in technology management, security, compliance and cloud services,” said Coalfire chairman and CEO Larry Jones. “His areas of expertise align with the core of Coalfire’s commitment to keeping clients ahead of the rapid changes in payments and mitigating risk against increasingly sophisticated criminal activity.”

Most recently, Pfanstiel held the title of Director of Solutions Engineering at Bluefin Payment Systems. There, he was tasked with a role as an integration and compliance expert for the business development and operations teams, serving as a technical advisor throughout the partner and major merchant sales and implementation process. Prior to Bluefin, Pfanstiel served as founder and president of Diverge, Inc., a full-service IT consulting firm. He has also held the titles of Chief Information Officer at Angel Food Ministries and multiple Information Technology Director positions.

Pfanstiel is a PCI Qualified Security Assessor, and is a Certified Payments Professional and Certified Information Systems Security Professional. He is a graduate of Oral Roberts University, and holds an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix.  Pfanstiel expects to receive his Ph.D. from Capella University in 2017, upon completion of his doctoral dissertation, entitled “Establishing a Baseline for Merchant PCI Compliance Cost: A Benchmarking Model for the Retail Industry.”
