Duo Brings More Than 40 Years of Experience in Penetration Testing and Hacking

Louisville, Colo. – Oct. 21, 2015 – Coalfire, a leader in cybersecurity risk management and compliance services, today announced Luke McOmie and Ryan Jones have joined the company to lead its Labs division. Each bring more than 20 years of cybersecurity and penetration testing experience at a variety of organizations, both internally at enterprises and service providers.  McOmie joins Coalfire as the director of penetration testing; Jones is the Lab’s managing director.

“Luke McOmie and Ryan Jones both come from unique backgrounds and bring a host of experience in penetration testing, bringing our Labs division to a whole new level of capabilities,” said Mike Weber, vice president of Coalfire Labs. “Their understanding of the cybersecurity landscape and the abilities that hackers now have to breach companies will be vital in helping our customers understand their weakest points of security.”

Prior to joining Coalfire, McOmie has led risk and compliance programs, and managed red teams and security assessments for many Fortune 100 companies, federal agencies, and private businesses while working at companies such as Red Lambda, BT and Alternative Technology. During his 20-year career, McOmie has led the vulnerability management and ethical hacking teams responsible for the security of a 300,000+ end node, high profile, medical research business, and he led PCI readiness and vulnerability mitigation projects, securing more than 500,000 systems, 200 networks and 7,000 employees.

“I’m very excited to join the Coalfire team and help companies better understand and address their security weaknesses,” said McOmie. “Coalfire is uniquely positioned to not only help companies understand their current risk from a physical and cybersecurity perspective, but also to provide the guidance necessary to ensure its partners and customers are able to secure their data as best possible.”

Jones also comes from a diverse background, having spent much of his career as a security engineer, including holding positions at IBM as an ethical hacker, Alternative Technologies, TrustWave and most recently Cisco. As a white-hat hacker, Jones has led red teaming, penetration testing and business intelligence initiatives across the country, with a focus on physical security and social engineering, among other topics.

“I’m happy to join the Coalfire team and help the company expand the capabilities of its Labs practice,” said Jones. “Every year, the cybersecurity landscape is becoming more and more complex and hackers are finding new ways to attack businesses and steal information. Our goal is to ensure we enable clients to bolster their security before hackers are able to take advantage.”
